The following are thoughts for those artists who follow in my
footsteps.
If you have the option, stay at Sullivan's cabin on the lakeshore.
I lived at this cabin for a little over a week of my two week stay.
My experience here was richer than when I was closer to civilization.
I moved because I thought I would be closer to some of the areas of
the park I wanted to capture - but in the end I was closer to what I
was looking for when I was at the cabin. You will get used to the
roads.
Stay as long as you can. My stay of two weeks was a little short.
Another week would have given me time to get back to some of the
areas that were difficult to get to but offered rich rewards.
Bring a kayak or canoe if you have one. In late September and
particularly October, Lake Superior is often too rough for water
travel. Still, a nice day might yield a calm lake and a chance to
better explore the Pictured Rocks. Also, the inland lakes, such as
Beaver Lake, might be better explored by boat than foot.
Give the refrigerator time to chill down before you put
perishables in it. Set it to whatever is recommended, and give it a
couple days.
Good luck!
